I woke up thinking about the house that I grew up in.
It was on Glenburg Road in Defiance County, Ohio. The house that Dad built in 1955 with Grandpa and Uncle Bernie. The farm house that stood alone on that country road. That’s the way Dad liked it. The place where Dad had transplanted five saplings from the woods into the front yard.
The back yard swing set that we played on when the world was new.
The place where Mom make me chocolate cake for my birthday. The kitchen table where we played a million games of pinochle. The kitchen where Mom made baked beans and hot dogs every Saturday for decades.
The swing set is gone. So is the house. All that’s left are two tall trees by the road. And memories.
